Items of Desire: Photography and the Language of Advertising is a brand-new exhibition pertaining to the Los Angeles Contemporary Museum of Art (LACMA) this fall. As the title implies, the show checks out the myriad methods which artists have actually manipulated and fused the worlds of fine art and commercial photography.
Curated by Rebecca Morse of the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department, the show harks back to techniques initially formed in the 1970s, when professional photographers revamped advertising’s visual codes and strategies to place the onus on the viewer to identify what these images are asking people.

The exhibition will inhabit the expansive 2nd floor of the Renzo Piano-designed BCAM structure and will include a huge set of work by 34 artists, including Barbara Kruger, Larry Sultan, Chris Concern, Hank Willis Thomas, Sara Cwynar and much more.
