To rapidly recap, the “Fear Street” motion pictures follow a group of teens as they set out to undo menstruation on their home town of Shadyside, the murder capital of the U.S. (Riverdale wish to have a word, however I digress.) Each film in Leigh Janiak’s trilogy adoringly admires various ages of horror, with “Part One: 1994” taking motivation from ’90s hits like “Shriek” and “Sequel: 1978” tipping its hat straight to “Friday the 13th” and other ’70s and ’80s slashers. “Part Three: 1666” is perhaps the most inventive of the 3 films, drawing from not just “The Crucible” and folk horror films like “The Witch” but also Terrence Malick’s “The New World.”
It just stands to reason Janiak would be creatively involved with any and all future “Worry Street” jobs, must they come to pass. As the director on the “Worry Street” trilogy, she showed adept at respecting the scary category’s history while overturning its more regressive tropes, offering us a touching queer teenager love story and moving character relationships in-between the films’ lively needle drops and over-the-top eliminates.
On top of that, Janiak is married to “Stranger Things” co-creator Ross Duffer, who only just revealed a deal to establish even more tasks for Netflix with his brother Matt Duffer through their Advantage Down Pictures label. Could that include more “Worry Street” movies? Keep it tuned to/ Movie for more updates on that front!
