Wine Program Spotlights California White Wines, 65 Percent from Santa Barbara County and 90 Percent from California
LOS ANGELES, February 8, 2022– Concentrated on representing California’s dynamic red wine culture, SoFi Arena’s cooking operator Legends recently unveiled a highly curated red wine program for the brand-new venue and house of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. The program highlights California vintners, with a focus on Santa Barbara County, among the world’s leading wine-growing regions. The white wine choice provides visitors the chance to enjoy extraordinary red wine in a stadium setting and places California’s world-renowned viticulture on an international sports and home entertainment platform.
“Santa Barbara County is a diverse and vibrant white wine area that goes head-to-head in quality and artisanal craftsmanship with any white wine area worldwide,” says Ryan Tawwater, VP of Special Projects for Legends. “While 65 percent of the wines we selected are from Santa Barbara County, the wine list we curated functions more than 21 different grape varieties from Santa Barbara County.”
Throughout the stadium, 90 percent of the white wines provided are from California, with 65 percent of the choices hailing from Santa Barbara County.
“We challenged Legends, our cooking operator, to put together a red wine program that was as special to Southern California as the job itself,” stated Jason Gannon, Managing Director, SoFi Arena and Hollywood Park. “The program Legends produced will introduce a large audience to groundbreaking wines from simply north people in Santa Barbara County. We anticipate our visitors sampling the special tastes regional to Southern California.”
The white wine choice in the stadium’s clubs and suites highlights Santa Barbara County and its 6 American Viticultural Locations (AVA). The white wine list in these spaces is organized for visitors by the range of the vineyard to SoFi Arena. Showcasing the breadth of selection from the region, visitors will discover wines from six AVAs within Santa Barbara County on this list. Manufacturers and vineyards featured include the original pioneers of Santa Barbara County (Sanford, Au Bon Climat), pioneers (Andrew Murray, Lane Tanner), and the leading winemakers from the next generation of Santa Barbara County manufacturers (The Hilt Estate, Holus Bolus, JONATA, Tyler, The Paring, Chanin, Deovlet).
Legends likewise picked Northern California and Paso Robles stalwarts, consisting of Turley, Kistler, Kosta Browne, Paul Hobbs and TOR. The SoFi Arena reserve wine list has hard-to-source bottles of remarkable provenance consisting of Bond, Harlan, Peter Michael, Promontory and Shouting Eagle.
International white wines and sakes round out the selection of California bottles, with 6 different sakes and red wines from some fabled wineries such as Gaja, Penfolds Grange, Domaine Bonneau du Martray, Louis Roederer Crystal, Billecart Salmon and Dom Pérignon.
A number of red wines from The Paring in addition to Nomadica’s shimmering white are available throughout the stadium and in all its concession areas. The Paring white wines are from the coastal vineyards of Santa Barbara County. The wines embrace the area’s “cooled sunlight” and trademark freshness. Choices include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and a Rosé of Pinot Noir. Complementing the wines from The Paring is the Nomadica shimmering white, from Northern California. Nomadica’s sparkling white blends chardonnay with a hint of muscat to draw out tastes of nectarine, citrus and melon.
In combination with the wine program’s official launching, SoFi Stadium created a wine bar in the Google Cloud Club and Suites on the second level of the arena to include world-class wines from California’s finest white wine producers. The club features a hand-painted mural based off the legendary Hilt red wine label and includes images of the rugged Sta. Rita Hills AVA landscape in California where the Hilt Estate, and numerous other first-rate California vineyards lie. Found in the Google Cloud Club and Suites, the wine bar features a highly curated list of white wines, consisting of the brilliant and well-structured Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from The Hilt Estate in Sta. Rita Hills; a superb red mix, “Todos,” from the JONATA estate in Ballard Canyon; the mouth-watering “Vandenberg” Riesling from Tatomer; and a single-vineyard Chenin Blanc from Foxen.
